Eco-Tec’s Salt Separation Unit (SSU®) process employs a specialized ion exchange resin with high selectivity for chloride over sulfate and carbonate, as compared to conventional resin. The SSU® operating cycle consists of two basic steps, loading and elution. During the loading step, the feed solution containing mixed salts is introduced to the ion exchange column. Chloride is preferentially loaded onto the resin as compared to other anions present in solution. During the elution step, water is passed counter-currently through the column. Elution of the resin removes the chloride and returns the resin to its original state. As the resin is water eluted, the SSU® is simple and inexpensive to operate.
